The selection criteria
The Bavarian Book Award honours the finest publications of the year in the categories fiction and non-fiction. In addition the life’s work of an author is awarded the prize of the minister-president of Bavaria.
One work of fiction and one work of non-fiction written by German speaking authors will be awarded. Only works published for the German speaking market within the past twelve months will be considered. The life’s work of a renowned author is awarded the prize of the minister-president of Bavaria.
The award winners are chosen by an independent jury consisting of three experts. The publications are suggested by the experts. Each expert will suggest two fiction and two non-fiction publications for the jury to choose from. The jury will nominate three publications for each category in its first meeting.
Unsolicited books or suggestions for nomination will not be taken into consideration.
The list of the total of six nominated fiction and non-fiction publications will be published on October 26, 2016. The winners of the award will be chosen by the jury in a meeting open to the public during the awards ceremony.
The life’s work of a renowned author is awarded the prize of the minister-president of Bavaria. Suggestions can be made by the jury. The final choice will be made by the minister-president himself and published on November 15, 2016.
